'transmuted flame' 'order of the transmuted flame'
Little is known of the Order of the Transmuted Flame, save for fragments of
records recovered from the libraries of Palanthas and the testimonies of
sailors who speak of strange fire seen far out at sea.
The Order was a small sect of Sirrion's faithful: alchemists, clerics, and
philosophers devoted to the idea that all creation must be unmade before it
can be perfected. To them, fire was not destruction but revelation: the divine
instrument through which impurity is burned away, leaving truth bare and
brilliant.
It is said they sought to glimpse the source of Sirrion's flame itself. Their
experiments grew bolder with each success, until they petitioned the Flame for
greater inspiration - and He answered. Witnesses claimed a light brighter than
any forge split their hall, followed by an explosion that tore the fabric of
the world. From that wound, creatures of shadow and chaos poured forth, howling
through smoke and molten stone.
Most would have fled or despaired. The Order did neither. Convinced they had
touched the edge of true creation, they rebuilt amid the ruin, more zealous
than before. They forged a permanent portal into that rift, believing it to
be Sirrion's ultimate crucible - a place where mortal and divine fire meet.
One by one, they passed through, vowing to return only when wholly remade.
None ever did.
Rumors persist of a remote volcanic island where their sanctum still burns,
its halls tended by echoes of those who crossed the flame. Some claim a few
daring pirates know the way, trading gold for silence. Whether the Order
found divinity or only oblivion beyond their portal remains a matter of
faith - or folly.
