ranged
Ranged weapons allow players to damage victims in nearby rooms. Solace
currently offers two types of ranged weapons: Crossbows, and Bows. To
use a ranged weapon, you need to arm it with ammo. Crossbows use bolts
as ammo, and Bows (including longbows, flatbows, strongbows, etc.) use
arrows as ammo.
Ranged combat is available to the following classes: Fighters, knights,
rangers, and outcasts. Fighters and rangers are able to gain extra
ranged skills by specializing in ranged weapons.
The 'wield' command is used to wear a ranged weapon (see 'help wield');
however, a ranged weapon is not used in the same way as other weapons.
In fact, if you engage in melee combat while wielding a ranged weapon
you will be unable to parry or deal any damage. To use a ranged weapon,
you need to utilize the commands 'arm' and 'shoot' (see 'help arm',
'help shoot').
Three important features determine how successful and powerful a ranged
attack will be:
1. 'Loading speed' determines how long the player will lag after arming
a weapon. Higher loading speed results in less lag.
2. 'Shooting range' determines how far a player can shoot an arrow. For
example, a shooting range of four allows the player to shoot as far
as four rooms. Every ranged weapon has a pre-set shooting range.
3. 'Precision' determines the chances that a ranged attack will hit the
target (see 'help precision').
Ranged weapons allow players to target victims who are flying in the air
above. You can only shoot the victims in the air if you have a shooting
range of at least four.
